FAQs
What are the startup costs and what do they include?
Initial startup costs range from $386,000 to $565,500 including the franchise fee of $45,000. For a breakdown of the costs, you can refer to Item 7 of the Franchise Development Disclosure.
How long does it take to open?
Depending on your state, the startup time can be as little as 4 months and as long as 10 months. Each state has a different process to follow. You will receive state-specific training for completing applications in the initial training. Each state varies, but there are generally two applications to submit. One to the Department of Education and the other to the Board of Massage.
Do I have to be an owner-operator?
No. While I worked very hard over several years to create a school that would operate without me, I haven’t worked in my school since 2018. What I learned in the first 10 years of working in the business is what Alpha Franchising will deliver to you so that you can work on the business.
Can I own more than one territory?
Yes. You can purchase more than one territory.
How many employees are needed to operate the business?
We recommend opening with no less than 3 employees. Some employees are mandated by state regulations but many times one person can fill several mandated positions. A school’s directors can be its instructor and enrollment specialist. Growth will require you to hire people for these positions.
How much will the business make in a year?
The gross revenue for Alpha’s company-owned campus was $600,483 in 2020 and $700,187 in 2021. Individual results may vary from franchise to franchise.
Will this help me hire therapists?
Results will vary, but Alpha’s President owns two spas in our Jacksonville market. One is 28 miles from the school, the other is 31 miles. 95% of our massage therapists are Alpha graduates.
What kind of equipment will I need to buy?
We will help each unit determine its specific needs based on the size of its location and projections.
Massage tables, stools, bolsters, and warmers: 1 per clinic room
Training tables, stools, and bolsters: 1 per two projected students.
A small library of massage-related books. 15 to 30 books.
Anatomy posters and models, including one full-size skeleton.
Stone warmers.
Computers and office equipment.
Will I need to build a Massage Curriculum?
An Alpha School of Massage Franchise features Alpha Anywhere, our massage curriculum that can be customized to meet any state’s requirements. Alpha Anywhere is designed to be a hybrid program but can be delivered in person for those states that require 100% live training. If you will be operating in a state that doesn’t currently allow online learning, Alpha Anywhere will be ready to convert as soon as online learning becomes available for massage therapy. Your students will already be enrolled in the LMS and comfortable using it. You’ll be able to convert overnight.
Our learning modules feature video lectures filmed in our professional studio, reading plans, projects, and tests that are designed to mimic the MBLEX exam.
While our bonus learning modules feature videos of massage demonstrations, our program delivers that training on campus. We believe massage modalities need to be taught in person where an instructor is hands-on with their students. Our clinical practicums are delivered on-campus as well.
